Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Who am I sparring?
Just like the other categories, the safety of all students is our number one priority and so the sparring competitors are carefully placed into divisions based on age, height, weight, and belt rank. Like all tournaments, competitors will take part in one to two matches during the event.

2. How long is my sparring match going to be?
For students 9 and under, sparring matches are 2 rounds of 1min -1min 15sec each, with a 30 second break between rounds. For students 10 and up, sparring matches are 2 rounds of 1min 30sec, with a 30 second break between rounds.

3. Who's my referee?
Mach MA Championship is refereed by our qualified Black Belts and Competition Team Members who have been trained in the rules and safety guidelines by our MachMA Masters.

4. Do I have to wear all of my training gear?
YES! All safety gear must be worn by all competitors. The gear checklist is as follows:
-Head Gear
-Chest Protector
-Arm Guard
-Shin Guard
-Groin Protector (males)
-Mouthguard
To maintain the safety of all our students these items will be checked by acting referees before all matches begin. If you need replacement gear, order from your local Dojang as soon as possible.

5. How can I practice?
Of course, regular class attendance is the best way to gain proper sparring experience. But, there are several things you can do on your own to help become a better competitor.
First, do anything you can to increase your endurance and footwork. Running or jogging is great for endurance and sprints are good for explosiveness. Looking for a way to increase balance and footwork? Start using a jump rope!
Second, practice your kicking and timing skills with a partner or parent at home. Kicking targets are great for these exercises, and for extra conditioning, wear your sparring gear while practicing.
Third, have fun and be proud of your improvements!
